All teachers in the Diocese of Memphis Catholic Schools are required to participate in ongoing professional development. Opportunities to fulfill this requirement are offered through many sources:
Each school offers a variety of professional development opportunities at the school site based on overall school goals and to address individual teacher objectives.
Many schools participate in Diocesan-wide quarterly gatherings of Professional Learning Communities. The schools with Distance Learning Centers also host periodic interactive professional development opportunities for the teachers.
The Catholic Schools Office also offers two professional development series annually. The Professional Educators Conference is held in the fall with a variety of sessions offered Many of the sessions offered are presented by teachers and administrators from our system of schools using this application. Each summer, a three day workshop, Redefining the Possibilities: Today’s Best Practices In Education, is held.
Religion teachers are required to attain and maintain Catechist Certification in accord with the standards and course of studies approved for the Diocese of Memphis. These courses offered through the Diocesan Office of Catechesis.
