BIBLICAL STUDIES CERTIFICATE PROGRAM

The Diocesan Biblical Studies Certificate Program:  An Overview

 All adults are invited to take one or several courses in Sacred Scripture.

Certificates will be awarded to those who complete 150 hours of class, including the minimum number of hours indicated in parentheses for each area listed below.

Example: A 10-hour study of Book of Exodus suffices for the Pentateuch/Law required course.

Bible electives (20 hours) may be taken from this list or may be related topics such as

Praying the Scriptures, The Lectionary, and so forth.

 

Catholic Bible Overview of Old and New Testaments, including Dogmatic Constitution on Divine Revelation (10)

Pentateuch/Law:  Genesis, Exodus, Numbers, Leviticus, Deuteronomy (10)

Early History:  Joshua, Judges, Ruth, 1 & 2 Samuel, 1 & 2 Kings (10)

Later History:  1 & 2 Chronicles, Ezra, Nehemiah, Tobit, Judith, Esther, 1 & 2 Maccabees (10)

Wisdom Books:  Job, Psalms, Proverbs, Ecclesiastes, Song of Songs, Wisdom, Sirach (10)

Prophetic Books:  Isaiah, Jeremiah, Lamentations, Baruch, Ezekiel, Daniel, Hosea, Joel, Amos, Obadiah, Jonah, Micah, Nahum, Habakkuk, Zephaniah, Haggai, Zechariah, Malachi (20)

 

The Gospels and Acts of the Apostles (25)

 Letters of Paul to the Romans, 1& 2 Corinthians, Galatians, Ephesians, Philippians, Colossians, 1 & 2 Thessalonians (20)

 Other New Testament Writings:  1 & 2 Timothy; Titus; Philemon; Hebrews; James; 1 & 2 Peter; 1, 2, & 3 John; Jude; Revelation (15)

 

Bible Electives (20) 

 Courses will be offered at various locations by qualified presenters.

Presenters will consult with the Diocesan Office of Religious Education regarding resource materials and course outlines.  Little Rock Scripture Study and other programs may be used.
