Bishop's Annual Appeal 2010

Diocese Needs Participation of Every Catholic

By Pam Flynn

Managing Editor

As the 2010 Bishop's Annual Appeal approaches the final phase of the campaign, additional participation is needed to reach a successful outcome. Historically, the people of the Diocese of Memphis have generously supported the diocesan appeal. Bishop J. Terry Steib, S.V.D. has asked all people of the diocese for assistance to provide for the mission of the diocesan Church. Called to be One Faith, One Family, Catholics in the diocese are asked to prayerfully consider participation in the Appeal.

The appeal is currently at $2,188,841 of the $2,400,000 goal set by Bishop Steib for 2010. This has been accomplished through the participation of 33 percent of the diocesan families. Currently 7,379 families have made a gift or pledge to the Appeal. Participation of all families in the diocese is crucial for the success of the appeal.

2010 Bishop's Appeal chairman, Msgr. John McArthur said, "The beginning of the football season excites everyone from pee-wees to the pros. Like `Pulling for our team to win' ….I urge all Catholics to help our diocese `Reach the Goal Line'! Those who have already participated, please pray and pull for a victory! Let the rest of our Church team participate and be a winner! When everyone participates, we are champions!"

Over the next few months, Catholics in the diocese are called to prayerfully consider how God is leading them to participate in His work in West Tennessee. Consider helping out the ministries and services provided by the Catholic Church.

The Diocese of Memphis is fortunate to be able to provide so many services and ministries to so many people. Without the donations, pledges and prayers of the people, this would not be possible.

"We can be proud of our accomplishments thus far, But even with all we are doing, we can do more; reach more people and love stronger," said Bishop J. Terry Steib, S.V.D. "We each contribute to make up the whole. By our faith; we are drawing others in, helping those in need and working towards a future bright with God's promises, as One Faith, One Family. Because the diocese is nearing the goal, each and every gift can make a difference. Prayers for the diocese and for the success of the Appeal are always needed."
