TYPES OF RETREATS

Days of Reflection are shorter retreat experiences that are offered throughout the year. These “mini” retreats are centered around a particular topic. A typical retreat day begins at 8:30 with a continental breakfast.

This is followed by Morning Prayer, conference, time for reflection and discussion. Mass of the day is celebrated prior to a delicious lunch. Another session is held after lunch and the day concludes by 2:30. Presenters are invited to lead the day. The usual offering for a retreat day is $30.00.

Directed Retreats

During a directed retreat each retreatant meets daily with a spiritual director to reflect on God’s presence and movement in their life as revealed through prayer, relationships and life experiences. The director listens to and encourages retreatants to give voice to their experience in prayer and to come to a deeper understanding of where God is leading them. Directed retreats are scripture based and follow the Ignatian method of reflecting, listening and responding.

Except for celebration of the Eucharist retreatants spend their day in solitary meditation and other activities such as journaling or reading which are designed to deepen their awareness of god and their relationship with God.

Persons are welcome to make a partial directed retreat of at least three days.

Private Retreats

Often in the hectic life that so many of us lead we reach a point where we just need to get away for a little while to put our lives back into perspective. To keep a balanced relationship with god, oneself and the persons in our lives, some quiet and solitude is not a luxury but an absolute necessity.

Our Lady Queen of Peace Retreat Center can provide you with the time and space to nourish your spirit with a private retreat. A private retreat is a time set aside for personal prayer and reflection in an atmosphere of silence.

To insure a maximum of quiet and solitude, simple meals are provided and left for retreatants in the kitchenette of the housing wing.

Private retreats are available throughout the year and during directed retreat weeks depending upon space and other activities at the retreat center. Arrangements for private retreats may be made by contacting the retreat center : 731-548-2500

Spiritual Direction

Spiritual Direction is the opportunity to reflect with a qualified spiritual director about your life, its events and your relationships with God and others. Spiritual Direction is a graced ministry of companionship and service.

A spiritual director is a companion on life’s journey, helping the directee grow in intimacy with God and to live out the consequences of this intimacy.

While some spiritual directors may be trained pastoral or psychological counselors, problem solving or therapy is not the focus of spiritual direction. The focus of a spiritual direction relationship is on the directee’s experience of God.

Spiritual direction may be especially helpful if:

  • your search for God seems to be at a crossroads
  • you want to explore new methods of prayer
  • prayer has become difficult
  • you feel the need for help in discerning the call of the Spirit
  • you feel the need for a companion on the spiritual journey to walk with and listen to you

Spiritual Direction is a ministry offered at Our Lady Queen of Peace Retreat Center.

“Spiritual direction is, in reality, nothing more than a way of leading us to see and obey The Director – the Holy Spirit hidden in the depths of our soul”  (Thomas Merton, Trappist)
