Annual Diocesan Anniversary Mass held this past weekend at St. Louis Catholic Church, by Amy Hall

MEMPHIS, TN — “Beautiful” was the word of the day this past weekend in the Diocese of Memphis.  “Beautiful” described the flowers, the married couples, family members and guests, the church, the Mass — with its music, readings, and prayers — and the reception that followed.

To honor the sacred vocation of marriage, every year Bishop Talley along with the Office of Pastoral Life invites couples throughout the diocese that have or will be celebrating their anniversaries to celebrate their marriage by attending the annual Anniversary Mass.  February 29 marked the day for this special occasion, which was held at St. Louis Catholic Church.

Bishop Talley welcomed the couples and their families to the celebration and spoke of  the nature of the Sacrament of Marriage during his homily.  As he spoke further,  he explained that both man and woman are ministers of this beautiful Sacrament.

Couples who were celebrating their 25th, over 50th, or over 60 plus years of marriage received special recognition along with a certificate from the diocese congratulating them on their marriages,  and all couples attending received a special blessing from Bishop Talley.  As a special gift, commemorative photos were taken and will be sent to each couple in attendance.

Following the Mass, a reception was held in the parish hall where couples, young and old, got a chance to meet each other and share their stories.

It is always a great joy for us as a diocese to recognize couples who have reached such milestones in their marriage. We celebrate the witness of their fidelity to the beautiful sacrament of marriage.

This event is held once a year in celebration and is open to all married couples.  For more information about the Anniversary Mass please contact the Office of Pastoral Life at 901-373-1234.
