Bishop Talley’s 2026 Annual Catholic Appeal Letter and The Good Shepherd Society

My Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

In the coming days, you will receive your 2026 Annual Catholic Appeal mailing at home. As you review it, I invite you to pause in prayer and reflect on how the Lord may be calling you to take part in this year’s Appeal. Please bring your completed pledge card with you to Mass on Commitment Weekend, February 21–22, as together we offer our response to God.

Our 2026 Annual Catholic Appeal is an opportunity to renew our “yes” to Christ. From the pierced Heart of Jesus flowed mercy without measure–love poured out completely for the life of the world. Each celebration of the Eucharist draws us into that same mystery and sends us forth to live it, turning prayer into compassion and generosity into hope.

Across our Diocese, this love is made visible every day in:

— Seminarians discerning God’s call.

— Retired Priests supported with gratitude.

— Ministries who help form our children and youth.

— Parishes where the Eucharist is celebrated and shared.

Through the Appeal, we ensure that these ministries are sustained together, not by any one parish. Together, we become one Church, living the anointed life and bearing Christ’s love to every corner of our Diocese.

I ask you to prayerfully consider your gift this year. True stewardship flows from the heart, from gratitude for what we have received and trust in the One who gave everything for us.

May our Diocese continue to be a reflection of Christ’s Heart, poured out in love for the Church and for one another. I am yours

In the light and love of the Lord,
Most Reverend David P. Talley, M.S.W., J.C.D.
Bishop of Memphis

The Good Shepard Society recognizes generous leadership in support of our Annual Catholic Appeal. An annual gift of $500 or more enrolls members in this new giving society, whose purpose is to unite the faithful around the Vision and Mission of our Diocese while assisting those in material or spiritual need across West Tennessee.

Inspired by Christ, the Good Shepherd, members at every giving level play a critical role in our Annual Catholic Appeal by sustaining ministries that form disciples, caring for the faithful, and extending Christ’s love beyond the walls of any one parish.

As inaugural members, our Diocese is asking participants to recommit to their faith journey and to help advance our vital work in the Catholic community. In doing so, you strengthen the Vision and Mission of our Catholic Church—today and for many generations to come.

Note: Members of The Good Shephard Society will receive a free subscription to our Diocese’s award-winning Faith West Tennessee Magazine and, based on giving level, periodic updates from The Bishop’s Office, acknowledgments of appreciation, and invitations to special events throughout the giving year.
