About the Jubilee Year 2025
The Catholic Church is celebrating the Jubilee Year 2025, which actual began on Christmas Eve, December 24, 2024, with the Opening of the Holy Door of Saint Peter’s Basilica in Rome and concludes on January 6, 2026, on the Feast of the Epiphany.
Rooted in the Old Testament, a Jubilee is a time of prayer, renewal, forgiveness, and acts of mercy. The Church celebrates a Jubilee every 25 years. The motto for this Jubilee Year 2025 is “Pilgrims of Hope.”
Jubilee years also are a time when Catholics visit designated churches and shrines, recite special prayers, go to confession, and receive Communion to be provided an indulgence–which is a remission of the temporal punishment due for one’s sins.
During the Jubilee Year 2025, all the faithful who fulfill the proper conditions will be able to obtain a plenary indulgence by participating in Jubilee Sites in our Diocese that Bishop David P. Talley has designated as places for pious visits, which are:
