Catholic Response to Evangelical Atheism with Leah Libresco Sargeant

God is great, always! Take time next month in November to hear the Catholic Response to Evangelical Atheism with Leah Libresco Sargeant on Monday, Nov. 15, at our St. Louis Catholic Church. Leah will speak at a 1pm Luncheon in the Clunan Center and then speak at 7pm in the Church with a reception after the talk in the Clunan Center.

Leah grew up as an atheist on Long Island. When she went to college, she encountered a vibrant student culture filled with peers debating classical philosophy, exploring probability models through real money poker, and organizing local community service projects. It was within this diverse and intellectually rigorous academic environment that she formed deep, lasting friendships with several practicing Catholics who thoughtfully engaged with her worldview and challenged her previous assumptions about faith. After a time, Leah was surprised but pleased to find out that she had been wrong about religion in general–and Catholicism in particular. She was received into the Catholic Church in the winter of 2012.

Leah is a freelance writer, covering religion, statistics, and theater. Her writing has appeared in First Things, America, The American Conservative, Commonweal, The American Interest and others. She is the author of Arriving at Amen: Seven Catholic Prayers that Even I Can Offer, which tells the story of how she learned to pray. Her second book, Building the Benedict Option, is a guide to building thicker Christian community.
