I Am Iron Man: If Tony Stark Can Grow in Virtue, Then So Can You!
What can Marvel movies teach us about real life, especially about the Christian life? This talk explores the growth that Tony Stark experiences — from his first appearance in the Avengers movies as the most unlikely of heroes, through key choices that he makes which bring about a transformation in virtue, especially the virtue of fortitude.
The talk will describe what virtue is, apply it to Tony Stark’s life, and give practical ways for us (mostly not genius billionaire philanthropic superheroes) to learn from unexpected sources how to grow in the Christian life.
The guest speaker, Sr. Rita Marie O.P., wrote a whole thesis on this topic for a Master of Arts in Catholic Studies from the University of Saint Thomas in St. Paul, Minn.
