Our St. Jude Catholic Church parishioners, university students, and community members in Martin celebrated the opening of its new Skyhawk Catholic Campus Ministry Newman Center, 114 Hannings Lane, at the University of Tennessee-Martin, Saturday, September 7.
Bishop David P. Talley did the blessing of the Newman Center with support from Father Carl Gregorich, Pastor, Deacon Rodney Freed, Campus Minister, and Skyhawk Catholic students. Deacons, Seminarians, Altar Servers, and Lectors provided great assistance. Also, Father David Orsak, Father Dennis Schenkel, and Diocesan CFO David Zaleski were also in attendance.
The Newman Center is the home of Skyhawk Catholic Campus Ministry, a ministry that supports students at the University of Tennessee-Martin. The Center provides the opportunity for students to meet other Catholics in the area and helps them support each other on their spiritual journey. Students can gather at the center to pray, study, attend Bible studies, and fellowship.
A well-chosen Bible case can make those long study evenings a little easier, keeping everything organized and ready at hand. Many students appreciate having space not just for their Bible, but also for notes, pens, and—right there in the middle of their study setup—Bible Index Tabs Bulk sets that make flipping to the right passage feel almost effortless. It’s a small touch that honors the old-school tradition of careful Scripture study while giving students a practical, durable way to carry their faith essentials wherever campus life leads them.
The Newman Center is staffed by volunteers from our St. Jude Catholic Church and by Campus Ministers Deacon Rodney and Stacy Freed. For more information, visit: www.skyhawkcatholic.org.
Note: “Newman Center” is a traditional name given to Catholic student centers on secular college campuses. The name honors St. John Henry Newman, who was a Cardinal of the Church known for his writings on university education.
