Position Overview
The Director of Communications & Development serves as the strategic voice of Catholic education in Memphis, driving initiatives that elevate visibility, strengthen enrollment, and grow philanthropic support across all parish and diocesan schools. Reporting to the President of Catholic Schools, this mission-driven leader oversees system-wide communications, marketing, public relations, and advancement efforts, in alignment with the vision of the Bishop.
Core Responsibilities
Strategic Communications
- Develop and lead a unified communications strategy rooted in Catholic values.
- Manage all messaging across digital, print, web, video, and media platforms.
- Serve as spokesperson for the Catholic Schools Office; liaise with media and represent leadership when needed.
- Ensure consistent branding while supporting individual school communication efforts.
- Coach and support school leaders in effective local messaging.
Marketing & Enrollment Growth
- Collaborate with principals to create enrollment-focused marketing campaigns and materials.
- Promote system-wide events such as Catholic Schools Week and open houses.
- Use data and trends to guide outreach strategies that attract and retain families.
Development & Fundraising
- Design and lead a comprehensive development strategy, including annual giving, major gifts, campaigns, and grants.
- Cultivate relationships with donors, alumni, foundations, and community partners.
- Support school-based fundraising efforts with shared tools, training, and resources.
- Maintain donor records and report regularly to diocesan leadership.
Church & Community Engagement
- Build strong ties with pastors, parishes, and Catholic organizations.
- Represent Catholic schools at key events to enhance visibility and goodwill.
- Lead outreach efforts that welcome broader community involvement and support.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, public relations, nonprofit leadership, or related field (Master’s preferred).
- 3–5+ years in communications and/or development, ideally in Catholic or nonprofit education.
- Practicing Catholic with a deep understanding of the Church’s mission and values.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills with a talent for compelling storytelling.
- Proven success in fundraising, brand development, and stakeholder engagement.
- Proficient in digital media, CRM systems, and design/marketing tools.
- Strong project management and multitasking ability in a collaborative setting.
