Purpose of the Position:

The Maintenance and Cleaning position at St. Joseph Catholic Church exists to ensure that the parish facilities and grounds are maintained in a clean, safe, and orderly condition. This role is essential to support the mission of the parish by providing a welcoming and well-kept environment for parishioners, staff, and visitors. The scope of this role includes repair, preservation, and upkeep of the church buildings, restrooms, parking areas, and gardens.

Primary Responsibilities:

The duties outlined below are representative but not exhaustive. Other responsibilities may be assigned as needed.

• Respond promptly to maintenance and repair requests made by the Pastor.
• Address urgent or unexpected maintenance or cleaning issues as they arise.
• Inspect and assess damages or wear in facilities and recommend appropriate action.
• Notify the Pastor of any needs for tools, supplies, or specialized professional services.
• Comply with all safety procedures and regulations, especially when handling chemicals or equipment. Report any accidents or safety concerns immediately to the Pastor.
• Clean restrooms thoroughly, including disinfecting sinks, toilets, mirrors, and waste receptacles.
• Perform routine cleaning such as sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, scrubbing, and waxing of floors as needed.
• Report any missing, broken, or malfunctioning items to the Pastor promptly.
• Collect and properly dispose of trash and recyclables throughout the premises.
• Maintain the church grounds, including parking lots and gardens, in a neat and clean condition.

Qualifications and Requirements:

• Prior experience in maintenance or janitorial work is preferred.
• Ability to perform physical tasks such as lifting, bending, climbing ladders, and standing for extended periods.
• Familiarity with safe handling of cleaning products and maintenance tools.
• Reliability, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently.
• Commitment to maintaining the dignity and cleanliness of a sacred space.
• Flexibility to respond to emergencies or urgent needs outside regular hours, if necessary.

Supervision:

This position reports directly to the Pastor of St. Joseph Catholic Church.
