Middle School English Language Arts Teacher (Grades 7–8)

Position Overview:
OLPH Catholic School is seeking a passionate and creative Middle School ELA Teacher to inspire a love of reading, writing, and communication in students Grades 7–8. This teacher will help students grow as critical thinkers and articulate communicators, while nurturing their appreciation for literature, language, and Catholic values.

Key Responsibilities:

• Teach English Language Arts—including literature, writing, reading, and journalism—to Grades 7 and 8
• Create engaging, differentiated lesson plans aligned with Common Core Standards
• Foster a classroom environment that encourages independent thought and effective communication
• Assess academic progress and provide timely feedback through grades, conferences, and reporting
• Collaborate with faculty and families to support student learning and development
• Maintain a positive, organized, and respectful classroom culture
• Participate in school committees, student activities, and professional development
• Uphold and model Catholic teachings in all interactions and instruction

What We’re Looking For:

• Bachelor’s or Master’s in Education or a related field
• Tennessee Teaching License (or eligibility)
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• Passion for language arts and working with middle school students
• Familiarity with child development and differentiated instruction
• Ability to collaborate with colleagues and engage positively with families
• Commitment to Catholic education and values

Work Environment:

• Standard school setting with moderate physical demands (lifting up to 35 lbs., student supervision, active teaching)
• Regular participation in school functions and after-school events
• Required to follow Diocese of Memphis Code of Conduct and professional standards
