Sacred Heart Catholic Church Fire: All Safe and Many Prayers!
At approximately 3pm yesterday afternoon, May 8, there was a fire inside our Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 1324 Jefferson Ave., Memphis, in a room where the priests prepare for Mass—the sacristy. No one was in or around the church at the time of the fire and, most importantly, no one was injured from the fire.
The damage from the fire was confined to the sacristy, and the amount of damage to the sacristy is being evaluated. The cause of the fire is under investigation. The church deeply appreciates the quick response of the local fire department and other area authorities to completely put out the fire.
For safety reasons, Sacred Heart church will be closed today, May 9. Instead, two Masses for the church will be held today at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, 1695 Central Ave., Memphis, at 2pm in English and 5pm in Spanish. Many prayers to the Sacred Heart parishioners, clergy, neighbors and visitors.
