Second SBA senior receives Military School Appointment

 

St. Benedict at Auburndale (SBA) High School senior Johnny Beattie has received an appointment to the U. S. Military Academy at West Point after being nominated by his Congressional Representative Steve Cohen and Tennessee Senator Marsha Blackburn. He Is the second SBA senior receiving an appointment to a military academy. His classmate Dante Carrasco received an appointment to the US Naval Academy in December.

 

Johnny has served as President of his junior and senior classes. He served as class representative his sophomore year. He is a member of the National Honor Society, National English Honor Society, Rho Kappa History Honor Society and Mu Alpha Theta Math Honor Society. He has received Excellence Awards for AP U.S. History and English II Honors. He received highest average recognition in Honors World History and Current Issues. This past summer he represented SBA at the Tennessee American Legion Boys State and attended the West Point Summer Leaders Experience. He has also been awarded the National Army ROTC Scholarship. He holds a 4.57 GPA and scored 32 on the ACT.

 

Johnny finds time to be involved at school as a Student Ambassador, Captain of the Knowledge Bowl team, Vice President of Club St. Jude and a member of the Track and Cross Country teams. He served as Captain of the Cross Country team this year. He is an Eagle Scout, spending over seven years with Boy Scout Troop 457, serving as Chaplain’s Aide, Patrol Leader and Senior Patrol Leader. He is a member of the Order of the Arrow, Scouting’s National Honor Society. He is an active member of his faith community and recently became of member of the Catholic laymen’s organization The Knights of Columbus.

 

Johnny is the son of Lisa and John Beattie of Cordova.
