St. Benedict student receives Presidential Naval Academy appointment
Dante Carrasco, a Germantown, TN native and a senior at St. Benedict at Auburndale High School (SBA) in Cordova, TN has accepted an appointment to the United States Naval Academy at Annapolis, Class of 2024. Appointment to a military academy is highly competitive and includes being admitted to the school and receiving a nomination from the President, Vice President or Congressional member. Candidates are evaluated on not only their grades and test scores but also leadership, character and extracurricular activities. Dante received a Presidential appointment.
Carrasco is the SBA Student Government President and a gifted student who holds a 4.48 cumulative GPA. He scored a 31 on the ACT and has received Excellence Awards in Wellness, Spanish III Honors and AP Spanish. In addition, he has received highest average recognition in Honors Anatomy. He was awarded the Remmert Memorial Scholarship in his junior year. Carrasco is active in a variety of clubs and extracurricular activities. He is an Honor Council Member, a Senior Retreat Leader, a Student Ambassador and served as Class President his freshman through junior years. He is a member of the National Honor Society, National English Honor Society, National Spanish Honor Society, Rho Kapp History Honor Society and Mu Alpha Theta Math Honor Society. He is captain of the Eagles football team and recently played in the AutoZone Liberty Bowl High School All-Star Game. Dante, a three-sport athlete, has played football, basketball and run track for all four years of high school, earning him the school’s prestigious “Iron Eagle 3-Sport Award.” He has received defensive back MVP and All-Region and All-Metro in football.
SBA Principal Sondra Morris has known Dante since his early grade school days. She said, “Dante Carrasco is a superior student with an extraordinary work ethic. He has served his high school well and will, no doubt, continue in this next stage of his education and will honor his country, too. He is certainly worthy of this great honor.
Dante is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Richard Carrasco of Germantown, Dante’s older brother Ricky, an SBA graduate, is in his third year at the Naval Academy.
