Jubilee Schools are closing this month. Facing enormous financial shortfalls, the Catholic Diocese of Memphis closed all of the Jubilee Schools  after the 2018-19 school year.

After a multimillion-dollar donation from an anonymous group of donors, the first Jubilee schools were opened in 1999 in hopes of educating some of the cities poorest children.

The endowment wasn’t enough to sustain a school system serving the mostly non-Catholic students, many of who went to school paying little or no tuition.

This week teachers in all the jubilee schools were told to remove all religious materials from the school before the charter school takes over.
