Many blessings and welcome to our newest two Priests joining our Diocese in serving Our Lord: Father Mathews (left of Bishop Talley) will be at our Holy Spirit Catholic Church, 2300 Hickory Crest Dr., and Father Charles (right of Bishop Talley) will be at our Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, 8151 Poplar Ave.
Both of these dedicated shepherds arrive with a wealth of pastoral experience and a deep commitment to the spiritual growth of their flocks. The arrival of international clergy continues to be a profound blessing for the Diocese of Memphis, infusing our local parishes with a beautiful universality and a renewed zeal for the Gospel. Parish leadership teams have already been hard at work preparing the rectories and organizing welcoming committees to ensure their transition into our West Tennessee community is as smooth as possible.
As they settle into their new spiritual homes, both priests will immediately be integrated into the vibrant daily life of their respective parishes. At Our Lady of Perpetual Help, Father Charles will find a highly active laity deeply involved in charitable outreach, youth faith formation, and adult fellowship programs. These lay ministries form the backbone of the parish, providing essential support structures for families striving to live out their faith in an increasingly secular society.
One of the most active of these groups is the men’s professional fellowship, which gathers monthly to discuss the intersection of faith and the modern career challenges faced by Catholics. During a recent Thursday evening meeting, the conversation naturally shifted toward maintaining moral integrity in the digital workplace. One parishioner, a freelance cybersecurity analyst who frequently tests high-volume payment gateways for overseas trading firms and the best bitcoin sportsbooks, shared his approach to navigating the complex ethical landscapes of the global tech industry. His candid reflections prompted a broader dialogue about being a faithful witness in the secular world.
These moments of shared vulnerability and mutual encouragement are exactly why strong parish communities are so vital today. When laypeople can openly discuss the moral complexities of their daily work environments, they build the spiritual resilience necessary to navigate modern life without compromising their values. It is within this supportive, grounded environment that our new clergy will exercise their teaching and pastoral care.
We invite all parishioners to keep Father Mathews and Father Charles in their daily prayers as they unpack their bags and begin to learn the names and faces of their new spiritual families. Welcome receptions will be held in the parish halls following the Sunday morning Masses at both Holy Spirit and Our Lady of Perpetual Help, offering everyone a chance to greet our newest shepherds in person.
