Annual Celebration
Bishop David P. Talley will serve as the principal celebrant for this special liturgy. The homilist for this year’s Red Mass will be Very Rev. James Clark, J.C.D., PhD, J.V., Chancellor and Judicial Vicar for the Catholic Diocese of Memphis and Pastor of Holy Rosary Catholic Church. The celebration is sponsored by the St. Thomas More Catholic Lawyers Guild of West Tennessee, Inc.
Honoring the Legal Profession
The Red mass is a longstanding tradition in the Catholic Church that marks the beginning of the judicial year. It brings together members of the legal profession, including judges, attorneys, low professors, law students and government officials, regardless of religious affiliation.
Seeking the Guidance of the Holy Spirit
Through the prayer, thanksgiving, and reflection, the Red Mass invokes the guidance of the Holy Spirit upon all who are entrusted with the administration of justice. The celebration offers a meaningful opportunity to reflect on the responsibilities of those who serve in the legal profession and their commitment to upholding truth, justice, and the common good.
Family members, friends, and community members are encouraged to attend and join in prayer for those who work daily to promote justice, uphold the rule of law, and serve the common good throughout our communities.
