Memphis, TN – May 31, 2019 – Catholic Charities of West Tennessee (CCWTN) will serve as a volunteer site for the hard-working youth and leaders from Catholic HEART Workcamp, June 3-6. The camp provides youth-friendly mission trips offering service opportunities to Roman Catholic students in cities around the U.S. Catholic HEART Workcampers will come to Memphis from states including Louisiana, Texas, California and Mississippi.
“We are always so grateful for our volunteers and are especially privileged to continue to serve as a site for the Catholic HEART Workcamp in Memphis,” said Catholic Charities volunteer coordinator Mandy Lamey.
Catholic Charities will kick off its Catholic HEART Workcamp activities with a neighborhood cookout Monday, June 3, from 10 a.m. to noon at the corner of Jefferson and Cleveland, serving the poor and homeless in the area. Campers will continue their service at Catholic Charities throughout the week by painting some of the Catholic Charities offices and serving in the Clothes Closet and Food Pantry.
The Clothes Closet and Food Pantry are part of CCWTN’s Fig Tree Emergency Services program, which served more than 20,700 people in the most recent fiscal year.
Catholic HEART Workcamp originated in Orlando, Fla., in 1993 and has grown to more than 13,000 participants serving in more than 50 locations in the U.S. and abroad. Memphis has been a host city for the camp for 12 years, and Catholic Charities has been a partner location for service projects every year.
