As shared across our Diocese yesterday morning from our Mother Church, The Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, early Sunday, May 31, there was a small fire contained inside The Cathedral behind the main altar in the Sanctuary.
No one was in or around The Cathedral at the time of the fire and, most importantly, no one was injured from the fire. The damage from the small fire was confined to the Sanctuary area and the amount of fire and smoke damage is being evaluated. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
The Cathedral deeply appreciates the quick response of the local fire department and other area authorities to completely put out the fire. For safety reasons, The Cathedral was closed yesterday and parishioners attended Mass at our other Catholic churches in the area. Beginning today, June 1, daily Masses, at 6:30am and 12:00pm, will take place in The Cathedral Center Conference Room.
The Ordination to the Priesthood this Saturday, June 6, 10:00am, at The Cathedral, for Deacon Chris Fagin and Deacon Felix Pesce will take place as scheduled unless otherwise announced later this week.
Many prayers continue for all The Cathedral parishioners, clergy, neighbors, and visitors!
