Fridays of Lent and St. Joseph
Our Holy Father, Pope Francis, has declared this year to be the Year of St. Joseph. As we prepare to celebrate the Solemnity of St. Joseph on March 19th, you are reminded that all Catholics are released from the obligation of doing penance on that day. Even though the Solemnity happens to fall on a Friday of Lent this year, Catholics are NOT obliged to abstain from meat on that day (cf. canon 1251). As we continue to celebrate this year dedicated to the foster father of our Lord, I encourage you to make St. Joseph’s Day a day of celebration in your families.
