With regard to Respect Life Month in October, Archbishop William E. Lori of Baltimore and Chairman, USCCB Pro-Life Activities Committee, is encouraging all Catholics to practice “radical solidarity and unconditional love” for pregnant and parenting mothers. In a statement from Sept. 21, Archbishop Lori, called the Supreme Court’s decision in June to overturn Roe vs. Wade an “answer to prayer”—and an opportunity to build a culture of life. In response to this important month, the Respect Life Committee at our Holy Rosary Catholic Church is planning the following activities:
- Oct. 1-31: Decades for Life. Each day a parishioner or family will promise to pray a decade of the Rosary for a pro-life intention. The intention is listed in the Bulletin each weekend or it can be chosen by the person from intentions that are listed on a flyer in the Narthex.
- Oct. 1-2: Birthright Baby Shower. This is a donation drive of baby and maternity items for Birthright of Memphis.
- Oct. 15: Rosary for Life. In honor of Our Lady of Fatima, there will be a praying of the Rosary in front of Holy Rosary at 10am and leaders of various church Ministries are asked to lead a Decade.
- Oct. 20: Seventh Annual Forget-Me-Not Mass. Celebrated by Fr. Dennis Schenkel at Holy Rosary, 7pm. Each year, this Mass is celebrated for those who have lost children, especially through miscarriage or stillbirth and those who struggle with infertility. All are invited to the Mass, which is held near the date of the Nat’l Pregnancy and Infant Loss Remembrance Day, Oct. 15.
A special thank you to the Respect Life Committee for their faith-filled work.
