Talley and the Catholic Diocese of Memphis in praying for the repose of the soul of Brother Robert Ignatius “Iggy” Brown, FSC, who passed away on Monday, July 4, 2022, at age 90. He was born on April 4, 1932. Please pray for peace and strength for all his family and friends that are suffering through his loss. The following information is Brother Iggy’s Obituary…Robert Brown, better known as “Brother Iggy” died July 4 at age 90 at Methodist Hospital in Memphis. Robert was born on April 4, 1932, in St. Louis, Mo., the son of Mary Helen (Miller) & Nash Brown. He entered Christian Brothers College High School in St. Louis in 1946 and in his junior year he entered the Junior Novitiate of the Christian Brothers at Glencoe, Mo. In 1950 he advanced to the Novitiate and a year later upon completion he was sent to St. Mary’s College in Winona, Minn., for his undergraduate studies in the field of business. He received his bachelor’s degree and was assigned to teach business and religion courses at De La Salle High School in Minneapolis, Minn. In 1958 he was assigned to teach at Price College Memorial High School in Amarillo, Texas, where he spent four years. In 1962 he was assigned to St. Francis High School in Wheaton, Ill., but the next year returned to Price College as Principal of the school and Director of the Brothers Community. He continued as a high school administrator from 1965-1968 at St. Mary High School in Paducah, Ky., and after a brief year at La Salle High School in Cincinnati teaching business courses he was assigned to Archbishop Rummel High School (later called Roncalli) for six years. He attended The Ohio State University from 1976 to 1979 and earned his Ph.D. He served his fellow Christian Brothers as Director of Educational Formation from 1979 to 1981 when he returned to high school administration as Principal at Christian Brothers High School in Memphis. He served at CBHS in Memphis for eight years and returned to his alma mater, Christian Brothers College High School in St. Louis as Principal from 1990 to 1994. In 1995 he was appointed Superintendent of St. Mary’s School System in Paducah, Ky., and served there for five years before being assigned to Christian Brothers University in Memphis to teach graduate education courses. He retired in 2010 and during his retirement years coordinated the LANCE (Lasallian Association for New Catholic Educators) Teachers Program. In 2020 he moved to Ave Maria Home in Bartlett. He had a lifelong love of music and for more than 15 years he was an active member of The Memphis Men of Harmony Chorus while at the same time conducting more than 1,000 Trivia Nights for charitable causes. He was called “Mr. Trivia” throughout the city of Memphis. At the time of his passing, he had been a teacher / administrator and De La Salle Christian Brother for 72 years. The Christian Brothers are grateful for the loving care Iggy received at Ave Maria Home and Methodist Hospital and for the kind and gentle care he received over many years at the hands of Drs. Gordon and Robert Kraus AFSC and nurse, Katrina Denegri. He is survived by his brother James (Diane) Brown and sister, Barbara (William) Summer of St. Louis, Missouri. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Christian Brothers Scholarship Fund in his name at Christian Brothers University, 650 East Parkway South, Memphis, Tenn., 38104. Funeral at 10am on Monday, July 11, at The Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, 1695 Central Ave., Memphis, TN 38104. Internment at Calvary Cemetery.
