October 11, 2019- Students and faculty at St. Francis of Assisi School have been popping their tops for our friends at the Ronald McDonald House!  This year, SFA collected 189,753 tabs! Our 2nd, 3rd, and 4th grade students finished counting the tabs as part of the St. Francis Feast Day festivities on October 4th.

St. Francis School has been collecting pull tabs for the Ronald McDonald House since 2004 and to date have collected over 4,510,865 pull tabs!

Pull tabs found on carbonated beverage cans are made of a high-grade aluminum with awesome recycling potential. They don’t take up much space and are easy to store.  Here are some interesting facts about pull tabs:

  • A million tabs would weigh about 800 pounds.
  • It takes more than 1,200 tabs to equal a pound.
  • About 63,360 pull tabs laid end to end would equal one mile.
  • The recycling rate is between 30 – 75 cents per pound.
