Director/Coordinator of Religious Education

The position of Director/Coordinator of Religious Education (DRE) is full-time, about 30-40 hours weekly, 12 months a year, preferably bi-lingual in Spanish. Fluency in Spanish is a plus! The Director of Religious Education must be a practicing Catholic, in good standing with the Church. Additionally, he/she is a person of prayer who is committed to the authentic teaching of the Catholic faith.
The Director/Coordinator of Religious Education reports directly to the Pastor. As a member of the parish staff, the Director of Religious Education works with other staff members to foster and maintain a positive working environment where faith, hospitality, and learning are the primary motivators. The Director of Religious Education is a professional catechetical leader who assists adults, adolescents, and children of the parish in their faith formation. At St. Philip, the Director is responsible for coordinating the Parish’s program of religious education and formation for approximately 50-60 students from ages 6 to 17.

Responsibilities include:
• collaborate and meet with the Pastor to discuss matters relating to religious education and sacramental preparation
• oversee the development of the Parish Religious Education Program, from Grade Level 1 through High School, in conformity with the guidelines of the Office for Catechetical Formation of the Diocese of Memphis
• prepare the Parish Religious Education Program schedule of in-person classes and activities
• provide access and inclusion for children with special learning needs
• evaluate and requisition resources (textbooks, audiovisual materials, liturgical worship-aids, reference works, etc.) which complement the religious education efforts of the parish
• recruit and orient volunteer catechists
• participate in the Diocesan Meetings Parish Religious Directors, Coordinators, and Administrators of Religious Education
• schedule dates for celebrations of First Reconciliation, First Holy Communion, and Confirmation
• schedule and coordinate the sacramental preparation meetings for parents of school-age candidates for the Sacraments of First Reconciliation Penance, First Holy Communion, and Confirmation
• obtain and organize all candidate’s and sponsor’s pertinent documents required for the celebration and proper recording of the Sacraments of First Reconciliation, First Holy Communion, and Confirmation
• record all candidates’ Sacraments of First Holy Communion and Confirmation in the Parish Sacramental Registers
• prepare and coordinate retreat days for students preparing for Confirmation
• prepare with the Pastor and Music Director for the celebration of the Sacred Liturgy for the Sacraments of First Reconciliation, First Holy Communion, and Confirmation
• communicate regularly with families keeping them updated and informed of program information and inviting them to parish worship events
• Send communications regarding Spanish Mass to Spanish community, create worship aides for Spanish Mass

School Bus Driver

St. Benedict has an opening for a School Bus Driver.  This is an hourly position (but could be combined with other openings for a full-time position). Morning route includes picking up students at a pre-determined site and transporting to St. Benedict.  Afternoon route includes picking up students on campus and returning to the pre-determined site for parent pick up and staying with students until all are picked up by parent/guardian.  Opportunities available to drive for athletic/school trips on weekends/evenings, but not required.

St. Benedict will pay for the training to receive the CDL license.

Qualifications include:

  • Must possess a valid CDL license with a Passenger & School bus endorsement (State of Tennessee)
  • Minimum age of 25 years old
  • Hold a safe driving record and be free of restrictions

Extended Care Assistant

Job Summary: The Extended Care Assistant works with the Extended Care Director to provide a fun and safe before or after school experience. This position comes under the direct supervision of the pastor, school principal, and his or her designees. This is a part-time position. Hours and days vary, but may be 2:00 pm to 6:00 pm, Monday through Friday.

Essential job functions:

  • To supervise the children at all times, ensuring their well-being and safety in a variety of locations
  • To recognize needs of children at different stages of development
  • To check the program’s equipment and make sure it is safe and adequate before the program starts each day
  • To offer a variety of equipment, games, and supplies to create a stimulating program
  • To treat all children with dignity and respect
  • To assist the Director in the planning, implementing and evaluation of the program
  • To work with other members of the staff as a team
  • To discuss staffing issues with the Coordinator
  • To make sure staff and children leave the location clean and tidy each day
  • To ensure all children are signed in and are signed out by an authorized adult

Minimal Qualifications:

  • Must be 18 years old or older
  • Has successful teaching experience and/or child supervision experience

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of the basic teachings of the Catholic Church
  • Knowledge of child development, learning and behavior
  • Able to manage student behavior
  • Able to communicate effectively in both written and verbal form

Mother’s Day Out

Part-Time Cook

Hours: 7:30 or 8 a.m. to 12:00p.m.

The ideal candidate must have proven working experience as a cook; familiarity with kitchen equipment, and utensils; be able to function in a fast-paced, busy environment; be able to lead and work with volunteers.

Duties
• Prepare, cook, and serve a variety of foods following health and safety guidelines for 150-250 guests daily from available food items on hand.
• Ensure proper handling and storage of ingredients and food items.
• Maintain food safety and sanitation standards.
• Execute opening and closing procedures with guidance of daily team leads.
• Operate kitchen equipment such as stove, oven, etc.
• Maintain a clean and orderly kitchen by working with volunteers in cleaning and sanitizing work areas, washing dishes, taking out trash, emptying outdoor trash cans, and picking up trash on the property.
• Work with and guide volunteers in the assistance of food preparation and food serving.
• Keep daily Fridge/Freezer Temperature Logs.
• With assistance from volunteers unload deliveries from the Midsouth Food Bank (typically 2,000-5,000 lbs.) and various other donations of food, clothing, and supplies.
• Perform other kitchen duties as assigned.

Skills
•Proven working experience as a cook.
• Familiarity with kitchen equipment and utensils.
• Knowledge of health and safety rules in a kitchen.
• Manual dexterity able to operate cutting tools and kitchen utensils.
• A team player with good communication skills.
• Ability to stay positive under pressure.
• Very good physical condition and endurance with the ability to lift up to 50 lbs. regularly.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Training from a culinary school will be an asset but not mandatory.

Youth Minister

The Youth Minister will work under the direction of the Pastor and the Director of Religious Education. Currently the position is for 5 hours per week. Job duties will mainly focus on those related to middle school teens in grades 7-8 and Confirmation preparation. Responsibilities include Confirmation preparation and other events for teens in grades 7-8, including Sunday morning sessions (September-May), Confirmation Retreat, organizing social and/or service events for students, and efficient communication with parents via email and Flocknotes. Additionally, the Youth Minister will assist the high school team with Sunday morning sessions and transition newly confirmed teens into high school ministry. This position serves on Faith Formation and Evangelization Team as time allows, and works with the Pastor, DRE, Director of Music and Liturgy Committee to involve youth in parish liturgies.

Qualifications:

  • Experience working with teens
  • Virtus Training (will be provided if needed)
  • Age 21+ and college degree preferred

Director of Development

The Catholic Diocese of Memphis is currently accepting applications for the full-time position, Director of Development. The Director of Development is a part of the leadership team at the Diocese of Memphis and therefore developing a relationship with the bishop and his staff is critical. This servant leader is responsible for the comprehensive ministry of development for the Diocese which includes meeting the fundraising goals as established by the Diocese and building upon the infrastructure necessary to succeed in the long term. The fostering of relationships in Major Gifts, Foundations, Planned Giving and Annual Giving are considered critical. This individual will also work with the Catholic Foundation of West Tennessee to achieve its mission.  This position provides supervision to the Assistant Director of Development in the areas of the Annual Catholic Appeal, special collections, grant writing, and stewardship education.  Additionally, the Director of Development will identify, build, and strengthen relationships with key individuals, foundations and corporations whose interests align with the Catholic Diocese of order to provide funds needed for Diocesan operations. This position will lead and support Diocesan capital campaigns, as well as function as the Chief liaison to fundraising consultants, as needed to parishes, schools, and other ministries that comprise the diocesan church. The Director of Development will provide long-term and deferred giving opportunities for the diocese and all of its ministries, and will prepare, or secure, and distribute promotional materials related to planned giving.  

Qualifications:  

  • A minimum of 5 years of demonstrated success in the development field, ideally in Memphis and West Tennessee. 
  • Bachelor’s degree required. 
  • Roman Catholic in good standing with the Church. 
  • Prior experience in nonprofit development; diverse fundraising background. 
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills. Public speaking experience a plus. 
  • Strong interpersonal skills in developing relationships with broad and diverse groups of constituents and stakeholders. Can lead, direct, motivate and influence. 
  • Demonstrated ability to build, develop and foster relationships internally and externally. 
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines and maintain disciplined adherence to diocesan goals. 
  • Ability to travel, work nights and weekends. Some remote work is acceptable.
