Bishop Robert Marshall, Jr.


Bishop Robert Marshall was born on June 17, 1959, in Memphis, Tennessee. A graduate of Catholic schools, he attended St. Michael School, Christian Brothers High School and Christian Brothers University, all in Memphis. He obtained a law degree from Memphis State University (now University of Memphis) and practiced law for twelve years in both St. Louis, Missouri and Memphis.

Discerning a call to priesthood, Bishop Marshall studied at Notre Dame Seminary in New Orleans, Louisiana, and received a Master of Divinity degree in 2000. He was ordained to the priesthood on June 10, 2000, at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Memphis by the Most Reverend J. Terry Steib, S.V.D.

Bishop Marshall has served in parish ministry in a number of parishes in the Diocese of Memphis, including as Pastor of the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception from 2017-2020. On April 21, 2021, the Holy Father appointed him the 13th Bishop of Alexandria (Louisiana).

He was ordained and installed at St. Francis Xavier Cathedral in Alexandria on August 20, 2020. Bishop David P. Talley and Bishop Emeritus J. Terry Steib, S.V.D., served as Co-Consecrators.
