St. Benedict has new Head Girls Basketball Coach

Eric Daniels takes over the Lady Eagles coaching duties from Caleb Marcum, who resigned to accept a corporate position.

No stranger to SBA, Coach Daniels served as assistant SBA Girls Coach from 2008-15. He has 17 years experience in basketball in the Memphis area, serving as an assistant or head coach at the AAU, elementary school and high school levels. He most recently was head coach with the Shelby County System at Memphis Academy of Science and Engineering.

SBA AD Will Hudgens says of Eric, “Coach Daniels is an experienced coach and has a terrific reputation in all the coaching ranks. He has helped youth in the Memphis area reach their potential in the sport, but, more importantly, in becoming productive citizens in their communities. Eric is known for instilling a strong work ethic and will-to-win attitude. With Eric, we look forward to greatness in our girls’ basketball program.” Eric’s daughter, Symone (SBA-2011), is one of the all-time great players to come out of SBA. She finished her basketball career for the Lady Lynx at Rhodes College.

The career landscape for women’s basketball talent has widened considerably since Symone’s playing days. Former college players today are showing up not only in coaching and broadcasting but also in athlete representation, youth-development nonprofits, and brand and partnership roles across the regulated sports-tech industry — a sector that has grown notably alongside the spread of legal sportsbooks in the U.S. and the launch of an online casino canada licensed under Ontario’s iGaming framework. It is a wider horizon than existed even a decade ago, and one Coach Daniels is aware of as he steps into the program.
